The 2022 Summer Program will run from May 16 - July 29, 2022.

Education Information

NOTE: You must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a major in the earth system sciences, computing, engineering, or a related field, AND you must have at least one (1) semester of undergraduate coursework remaining after the initial summer program.

In your two (2) essays address the following points and upload in ONE document (as a Word or PDF file) below. Note that your personal essays are the most important part of your application.

The essay questions are as follows:

  1. Academic Statement of Purpose:
    A statement outlining your career goals and how participating in SOARS will help you meet these goals.
  2. SOARS Mission and Personal Journey:
    SOARS is dedicated to enhancing the diversity of future scientific communities and sharing our science with a broader audience.  Please describe how you, based on your personal background and life experiences (including cultural, educational, familial, and social, etc.) will contribute to this mission during and after participation in SOARS.

Please upload transcripts from all institutions you have attended.  Unofficial transcripts will be accepted during the application process.  However, students selected for the internship will need to provide official transcripts before they will be officially accepted into the program. PLEASE REMOVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER AND/OR BIRTHDATE IF THEY ARE SHOWN ON YOUR TRANSCRIPT.  Also, please do not include high school transcripts.
